Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is a world-class science museum dedicated to conveying science's power, stimulating curiosity and discovery, and propelling future innovation. Frost Science is divided into four buildings at Museum Park in Downtown Miami: the Frost Planetarium, Aquarium, and North and West Wings.

Visitors may learn about the underlying science of living systems, the solar system and known universe, the physics of flight, light, and lasers, human body and mind biology, and much more. Guests may get immersed in the realms of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through interactive exhibits and one-of-a-kind shows. Frost Science is particularly passionate about education, having garnered national acclaim for its summer camps and after-school programs.

The museum's thought-provoking exhibits span six storeys in a North and West Wing, with rooftop observation decks housing an astronomical telescope and an urban garden. Permanent exhibits at the museum focus on South Florida's biodiversity, light physics, aviation, the human mind and body, and other themes.

The aquarium building sits in the middle of the site and is where the bulk of tourists will start their adventure. Grimshaw has created a one-of-a-kind, vertically-oriented experience that allows guests to engage with aquatic ecosystems at different depths, from an open-air rooftop "surface" level to more intimate, immersive galleries "below the waterline." This area of the museum is dominated by the 500,000-gallon Gulf Stream Aquarium.

The aquarium's unique cone shape spans three levels, offering a cornerless sanctuary for sea creatures. The cone's bottom resolves in a huge, 31-foot circular viewing glass that offers tourists a breathtaking view up and into the aquarium from below, immersed in the blue depths of the Gulf Stream. Other viewing spaces include strategically placed portholes as well as an open-air deck with an aviary and other displays highlighting Florida ecosystems.

COVID-19 Security Plan

The Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science is a massive, sprawling institution, with the most of it open-air, outdoors, and naturally conducive to social distance. The museum has created a safe and welcoming personalized experience for visitors. There is a strong safety policy in place, including safeguards such as:

  • Limited daily capacity and timed tickets, required face covers for all attendees ages 2 and above, and non-contact temperature checks by museum personnel
  • one-way streets and restricted tourist routes
  • Every day, communal spaces and touch points are disinfected before opening, and all surfaces and high-frequency touchpoints are cleaned throughout the day.
