Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a National Historic Landmark that preserves its cultural and ecological assets to connect people with the history, understand the present, and create the future.
Vizcaya, constructed between 1914 and 1922 as the winter home of agriculture industrialist James Deering, is among the most well-preserved relics of this era in the United States, when the nation's top prosperous entrepreneur-made estates were influenced by Europe's grand mansions..
Vizcaya features a Main House with a beautiful art collection, a rockland hammock (natural forest), a mangrove coastline, and a historic hamlet that is being rebuilt to convey the complete narrative of Vizcaya and provide extra places for programming and outreach programs, especially agricultural initiatives. Since it first opened to the public in 1953, Vizcaya has functioned as a community center, and it attracts 300,000 visitors each year.
Vizcaya is a long-lasting, inclusive, and inventive location that inspires people to value the cultural vitality and environmental preservation of the world around them.
Vizcaya offers lots of variety, whether you enjoy gardens or history. The estate has 34 decorated rooms in the Main House, 11 acres of Formal Gardens, and 11 ancient homes in Vizcaya Village.
Thousands of students take part in hands-on courses and object-based learning around the Main House, Formal Gardens, and Village. Every year, Vizcaya's Bus Scholarship Fund provides around 80 free buses to Title I schools in Miami-Dade County.
Come for the program, which includes participatory activities that bring Vizcaya to life. Throughout the year, events enhance links to Vizcaya's cultural and environmental resources through fostering relationships through shared experiences.
Vizcaya collaborates with visual artists, scientists, poets, historic preservationists, and many others through dozens of partner organizations around the city to ensure experiences are of, by, and for Miami.
Many folks cherish Vizcaya, both individually and collectively. Generations of young girls have chosen the estate as the location for their Celebratory photographs, which document their transition into adulthood. Vizcaya is the ideal location for commemorating major events.
If you're searching for something to do in Miami, Vizcaya is open to the public from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays through Mondays. Visitors can enjoy some areas of the first floor of the Main House until 5:00 p.m., as well as the gardens until 5:30 p.m.
