Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden

With 83 acres of lush, vibrant tropical gardens, rainforests, and seaside surroundings, Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden in Coral Gables is one of the country's greatest botanic gardens. Dr. David Fairchild, a famous plant explorer, founded it in 1938 with the purpose of promoting the delight and beauty of tropical gardening. The garden's collection now includes over 3,400 different types of tropical fruit, orchids, butterflies, and native and exotic plants scattered over its Uplands and Lowlands ecosystems and exhibits.

Visit the Botanical Garden

With so many ways to enjoy the gardens, a visit to Fairchild provides a great outdoor trip for youngsters, a romantic date, or just a wonderful refuge for anybody who loves nature's beauty. While guided tours and tram trips are no longer available due to COVID-19 safety precautions, you may still dress up and explore Fairchild's gardens on your own utilizing their tourist map and information booklets.

Start with the Allée and Overlook for a spectacular view of the garden's Lowlands and lakes before continuing on to other collections and displays including the Water Gardens and Aquatic Displays, Arboretum and Geiger Tropical Flower Garden, Butterfly Garden, and Children's Garden. Stop by the onsite Glasshouse Café by Le Basque, which is accommodated in a beautiful limestone cottage and offers outdoor dining, to round out your stay.

Activities and Events

Fairchild hosts mango, chocolate, and orchid festivals, as well as art exhibitions, concerts, and seminars throughout the year. Despite the fact that the year is a little different this year, Fairchild continues to offer virtual and onsite events such as plant sales, art classes, pet-friendly puppy dates, and early bird walks through the gardens. Check the calendar before you go to see if there is anything special planned. Outdoor weddings can also be held in the gardens.
